We're coming off a bit of a high from last week, what with the onion rings and the burger with the onion rings and the onion rings, let's hope this week goes just as well. (Editors Note: lol............. wait till you see these ingredients.)
First up. Don't forget to play a game of Ketchup so you can read all about the onion rings from last week, or the fruit salsa from several weeks ago, or the grilled watermelon, or the cheese curds....We're about to start our 50th burger, so there is a lot to ketchup on, if you're behind.
Don't forget to like, comment, heart, +, e-mail, text, snail mail, smoke signal, raven, owl, or interpretive dance to us your thoughts. We love to hear from you.
Here we go. BURGER #50! This burger is... different. It's beef mixed with dried marjoram and dried thyme. Marjoram and beef must go well together, we've had several burgers call for it, and until then, I'd never used it in anything. The herbed burger is cooked, and then placed on top of caramelized onions, which are currently bubbling away in our little crock pot (Editors Note: Yay!). On top of the onions will go a combination of.... ready for it? Pitted dates (Editors Note: uh.), garlic, and sherry vinegar which is mixed together in the food processor. On top the dates goes crumbled feta (Editors Note: YAAAAAAAS), followed by a drizzle of warm honey (Editors Note: *RECORD SCRATCH*) They also recommend a sprinkle of cayenne, if you're into it. And of course, my old foe, lettuce has made it's pithy, wet return, it goes under the onions.
Built burger goes: Bottom bun, pithy, unnecessary lettuce, caramelized onions, burger, dates, feta, honey and cayenne, then the top bun. This burger has a lot of levels, textures and flavors. We will see how well it goes.

Our thoughts:
Husband: This was one sweet burger. The cayenne helped to cut the sweetness a bit, but not enough. Strangely enough my lips burn from the cayenne, and the sweetness still lingers...

Me: The cayenne was optional, but should not have been. The pockets of heat were a really nice contrast to the overwhelming sweetness. The burger itself, thanks to Husband's meat skills, was super flavorful and herbaceous. On a burger with dates, vinegar, honey and feta, found it hilarious that thing that angered me the most was the lettuce. The other issue I had was one bite and I was covered in sticky honey. STICKY! The burger sort of works, it works more than I thought it would when reading that list of ingredients, but when it's sweet, it's VERY SWEET. The feta, sadly didn't come through much and would have been a great creamy, salty element.
Also through no fault of our own, our pitted dates hadn't been entirely pitted and I nearly broke a tooth. (Editor's Note: I'm not taking a point off for this, because it had less to do with the burger and more to do with the store we got them from not being super thorough.) I would not say no to the herbs in the burger, but I would probably politely pass on a warm honey drizzle next time.
8/10

Tune in next week for our next burger and in two weeks when we have some very special gifts in a pre-Thanksgiving burger. (Editor's Note: We've picked it special, it's Thanksgiving themed!) Until then...Keep Sizzlin'.
